The most important prerequisite for a staff position at Camp Madawaska is a passion for sports and a devotion to giving the positive energy needed to provide a wonderful week for our campers.
Our Volleyball camp welcomes Coaches and Coaches In Training (CITs) who recognize the balance between top-level volleyball instruction and the family atmosphere of a summer camp. Coaches must be 19 years of age or older and possess a strong knowledge of the game with years of playing and/or coaching experience. We look to hire 80 coaches and 40 CITs each year.
Our All-Sport camp welcomes counsellors and sport specialists who will add enthusiasm to our structured program. We offer a variety of land and water-based sports to our campers. Counsellors should be at least 18, and possess great communication and organization skills. Specialists should have experience and/or qualifications in the discipline for which they are applying. We look to hire approximately 24 Counsellors and 15 Specialists each year.
To enhance the camper and staff experience, our Program Team members plan and facilitate our waterfront, low ropes, campfires and social programs.
Both Camps rely on our Medical and Athletic Therapy Staff to keep our campers and staff members healthy and ready to perform.
All-Sport Counsellors (inc. our Specialty Camps) are our invaluable staff members who live in the cabins with their campers, and guide them throughout the week to each of their elements and specialty sessions.
The counsellors work closely with our Specialists and Leadership team to ensure an incredible experience for their campers. They help facilitate the activities under the guidance of the Specialists.
Sport experience is an asset, particularly for our Volleyball-focussed Specialty Camps, but is not required. We are looking for energetic and positive people who have experience in working with children.
Our sport specialists should possess highly developed skills in their chosen sport and be able to create lesson plans for groups of 10 – 14 campers per session. Time management, organization, and good communication skills are required. Madawaska campers are of all skill levels and we encourage the campers to build their self confidence while teaching them new skills. The cabin counsellors will be participating and assisting the specialists in the execution of each lesson.
Specialists do not sleep in the cabins with the campers.
Speciality Areas have included:
Our volleyball coaches must be a minimum of 19 years of age, have years of volleyball experience and, most importantly, have a passion for the sport of volleyball. We are proud to offer our campers a learning environment regardless of their abilities; to ensure a positive and successful camp experience for everyone. Coaches will work under the direction of our Section Heads, Guest Coaches, and Technical Director. Our senior staff are always willing to assist you in this area. Coaches do not sleep in the cabins with the campers.
Our Program Team members work tirelessly to support the coaches and athletes. Program Team members deliver an invaluable team building component, support the camper’s use of the waterfront, deliver rainy day programming, and work to create non-volleyball events for campers and staff. The Team will work under the guidance of one of our Directors, and members need to be adaptable to the changing needs of the camp.
As a CIT at Madawaska, your responsibilities will include participation in staff training, an assignment with a specific cabin group and assisting coaches in lesson development and delivery.
As a positive role model for the athletes, you are expected to possess leadership skills and volleyball experience. As an in-cabin counsellor, you will supervise the campers and work closely with them to ensure a positive overnight camp experience. Of course, you have a terrific support system in your coaches and head staff if required.
Applicants must have completed grade 11 or older - but be under 19 at the time of camp.
Are you looking for the camp nurse experience of a life time?
Interested in honing your Athletic Therapist skills in a dynamic camp environment?
Madawaska is looking for a dynamic nursing and athletic therapist team to work alongside the camp staff and camp doctor. If you would like to spend one or two weeks helping kids make memories that last forever, then let Madawaska Camps help you make that come true.
For years, coaches at Camp Madawaska have supported the Village of Hope in Zimbabwe through the Madawaska Coaches Care charity.
Each year, we raise funds through a variety of campaigns, and some coaches sponsor a child directly. We are often blessed with replies and thank-yous and photos from the people we help.
Longtime Madawaska family member (and former Head Staff icon) Barry Mutrie leads this program. Barry, with assistance from Audrey Bos, keeps us informed of the good our contributions are doing.
Below, find an update letter from Barry (January 2021) as well as letters and pictures from the children we are supporting.
If you have questions, or you have the means to contribute, please contact Barry Mutrie directly at abmut01@gmail.com
