Reid named OUA East Coach of the Year

March 1, 2010 by Sue Weigand

Dustin Reid has a passion for volleyball, and his peers know it. The 35-year-old former resident of Orono was named Coach of the Year for the East division of the Ontario University Association (OUA) on February 18th, an honour bestowed on him by his fellow university coaches.

Reid just completed his first full season leading the Ryerson Rams women's volleyball team, after being named head coach in November, 2008, according to the OUA website. The team has made a marked improvement since Reid took the helm. The Rams finished just out of the playoffs with an …more

As of February 26th the Confirmation letters (usually sent by mail) will be sent to families by E-mail! In an effort to conserve the environment we felt this is yet another step in this important cause and it is our goal to eliminate all un-necessary paper waste in the future. We hope you value this new change and support us by ensuring we have your current email addresses.
O.C.A. 2010 Conference - A Huge Success!!!!

Thanks to a well organized and informative Ontario Camping Association conference this past weekend, Carrie and I were fortunate to network and learn from fellow camping professionals about current issues present in camping today. Sessions on bullying, low-ropes and instructor judgment training were just a few seminars in which we participated.

Keynote speaker Lynn Glazier spoke about some challenges our teens face in today's society and provided portions of her documentary film "It's a Teen's World: wired for sex, lies and power trips" to bring awareness to the current trends our teenagers are facing on a day-to-day basis.

The weekend concluded beautifully with Keynote speaker Dr. Wendy Mogel, Clinical Psychologist, author, speaker and parent of two. She eloquently discussed such issues as keeping expectations in line with a child's temperament, coping with …more

Our very own Sari Grossinger (Director/Owner Robin Hood Camps, Co-Owner Camp Walden & Madawaska) as Co-Chair of the Ontario Camps Association Directors Conference has invited an outstanding speaker to speak to parents and Camp Directors on January 31st!

Dr. Wendy Mogel (www.wendymogel.com) is an internationally known clinical psychologist and author of the New York Times bestselling parenting book, The Blessing of a Skinned Knee. A popular keynote speaker, she lectures widely at conferences, educational and religious organizations and schools. Dr. Mogel will be presenting a lecture discussing how parents can meet the challenge of raising self-reliant and optimistic children in a nervous world! We hope you will click here to learn more about this workshop.

As this is Dr. Mogel's first time lecturing …more

Madawaska Coaches' Care 2009

The coaches contributed close to $1500.00 to support these children. This means that Michelle Kahungwa in grade 6 and Brighton Muchenga in grade 4 will have continuing sponsorship as well as their families receiving much needed food and medical care. Thank you coaches!

As I led a Mission team in May, 2009 to the Village of Hope, I had the great privilege of visiting Michelle and Brighton and their families, presenting them with gift bags and quilts sewn by ladies in Canada. I was able to visit them in their Farm plot "homes". Let me describe their homes for you! Michelle and Brighton's families live in two small rooms with no bathroom, no kitchen and only …more

After a long, rainy, cold summer Mother Nature shined down on us in Bancroft to make our two weeks warm and enjoyable. We have received numerous emails and phone calls of thanks from our families noting the professionalism and caring nature of our staff and how those traits transcend to their children's stay at camp. We are extremely proud of the quality of our staff and our campers are very fortunate to learn and grow in a safe and compassionate environment.

Congratulations on a successful summer!
